More Than Skin Deep

If you are considering the switch from non-organic to natural products this post will tell you the benefits of making this switch. Natural and organic skincare can lead to a healthier outcome and one that is more environmentally conscious.

Our skin absorbs between 60 and 70% of what is put on it. This incredible fact made us think and that is why we choose natural ingredients.

  1. Ingredients
Non-organic skincare products contain synthetic chemicals. The long term use of chemicals in our skincare can lead to irritation and affect the balance of our hormones. These chemicals are often added as a filler, to improve appearance and texture. This does not add benefit to your skin. On the other hand, natural and organic ingredients are from naturally occurring ingredients. You can be sure that these ingredients are free from chemicals.
  2. Non-allergenic
Due to the fact that organic products are free from chemicals, they are less likely to cause irritation or allergic reactions. However, we would always encourage a small patch test to be conducted in order to make sure that an allergic reaction does not occur.
  3. Efficacy
Organic skincare contains active ingredients (around 95%). In contrast non-organic products contain active ingredients of around 5-10%. The high level of antioxidants and vitamins found in natural ingredients, are fantastic for skin and are free from contamination by chemicals. Many brands actually add drying agents to products. This limits their moisturizing capability. Check for ‘sulfate-free’ or choose natural products to ensure the products you purchase will moisturise and nourish your skin.
  4. Cruelty-free
Natural and organic products are safe and therefore don’t need to be tested on poor animals. When buying cruelty free you are supporting a move away from this practice. Natural and organic ingredients ensure that these products are suitable for all skin types, meaning everyone can enjoy the benefits.
  5. Helping the environment
As the ingredients are naturally grown, pesticides and other harmful chemicals are not used, therefore not resulting in a harmful effect on the planet. An added benefit is that organic and natural products use natural scents, not imitations, so they smell fantastic!

Next time you are looking at a skincare product, that may be non-organic, look at the ingredient list and see how many ingredients you recognise. Would you really want to put these unknown ingredients onto your skin?
