Caring for Your Skin When Battling Rosacea

When battling a skin condition, it is all the more essential to take care of your skin. Rosacea is a chronic condition that can take a toll on your skin health. Even though there is no cure for it yet, experts advise that following good skin care practices and taking regular medication can help you maintain your skin health.

Start by visiting a dermatologist to know the best medicine that suits your skin and enables you to keep your Rosacea flare-ups in check. We have put together a list of skincare tips you can follow to look after your skin when suffering from Rosacea –

  1. Learn Your Triggers – Rosacea flares up for different reasons in different people. Understand your triggers and do your best to avoid them to keep Rosacea at bay. Sometimes, ingredients in skincare products such as cleansers, toners, moisturizers, and makeup can also cause your Rosacea to flare up. It is a good idea to test out a new product by using it on a small area of your skin for the first few days before using it on your face. Make sure it doesn’t cause any redness, itchiness, or burning sensation on your skin.

  2. Avoid Products That Cause Dry Skin - Skincare products usually list all their ingredients on the pack. Find out more about the elements that make your skin dry because that can be an essential trigger for Rosacea. Some ingredients in skincare products that may cause dryness include –
  • Witch hazel
  • Perfumes
  • Alcohol
  • Menthol
  • Eucalyptus Oil
  • Camphor
  • Propylene Glycol

  1. Gently Cleanse Your Face Every day – Rosacea-prone skin needs frequent cleansing to rid the skin of dust and bacteria. To cleanse your skin without irritating it, use a mild rosacea-friendly cleanser, apply it gently without scrubbing, rinse your skin using lukewarm water, and pat dry. Do not use soap as it can cause dryness and irritation on your skin.

  2. Moisturize Everyday – Moisturizing hydrates your skin and reduces irritation. If you suffer from Rosacea, make sure to moisturize your skin at least once every day. Do this even if Rosacea makes your skin oily. It will help reduce redness, peeling, and roughness of the skin.

  3. Protect Your Skin from the Sun – Sunlight can make your Rosacea worse. If you are suffering from Rosacea, your dermatologist may advise you to avoid going out in direct sunlight. Exposure to sunlight is one of the primary causes of Rosacea flare-ups. Wear good sunscreen all around the year, even on cloudy days – every time you go outdoors.

  4. Choose Rosacea-friendly Skincare Products – When buying a new skincare product or trying out a new product, always check the pack for information on allergies. Also, take a look at the ingredient list provided on the pack. Ensure that any skincare product you use is safe for Rosacea-prone skin and does not contain any ingredient that can cause dryness or skin irritation.

  5. Test Skincare Products and Makeup Before Using on Your Face – Whenever you wish to try a new skincare product or makeup product, test it on a small area of your skin for a few days before using it on your face. If the product is unfriendly, it is like to cause redness, irritation, or burning sensation on your skin. That way, you will be able to avoid flare-ups due to skincare products and use only Rosacea-friendly products on your skin.

  6. Be Gentle with Your Skin

Rosacea-prone skin is vulnerable and should be treated with care. Use a gentle touch when cleansing or moisturizing your skin. Choose your skincare products with care and make sure all the products contain Rosacea-friendly ingredients.
