Here's to the Imperfectly Perfect

This year we continue to champion the Imperfectly Perfect with a focus on enhancing and embracing our imperfections. In the beauty industry it can be a popularity contest and we often only show and share what we want people to see. When you scratch the surface of that so-called contest, we need you to find beauty in yourself as you are.

If we’ve learnt anything from the past 2 years it’s about the impact we have, the impact on ourselves, on those around us and on our environment. Pre-pandemic we focused on material things, what we had and what we didn’t. There was a constant comparison with those around us as well as people we see on social media and the feeling that if we didn’t have something we were failing or inadequate. More recently there has been a move to conscious consumerism, defined as “shopping in ways one believes makes a positive social, environmental or economic impact”. Now people are choosing where they put their money and supporting brands that are ethical, working to benefit not only the people and animals but our planet. We couldn’t support them more! For us we believe that less is truly more. We believe in not taking from the earth what we won’t give back.

2022 for us is about focusing on accepting who we are, how we look, and using products powered by nature to embrace and enhance ourselves! It’s all about self-love! You know the instructions you are given before you fly – put on your mask before you help someone else? Well, we are applying the same analogy here! We have to look after and focus on ourselves, we have to be ok physically, mentally and emotionally to be able to help others and to help our planet.

Naturally Tribal Skincare is a brand that is diverse, that knows no race, skin colour, gender, sexual orientation. We are truly proud that we have built and continue to build a tribe that is built on a love for the planet, the belief in sustainability, in sourcing ethically and empowering women.

The beauty industry has a long way to go though, to stop pushing out unrealistic beauty standards as well as a focus on lighter skin tones which are positioned as being the ‘ideal’. Colourism, “a form of discrimination based on skin tone, perpetuated by the global beauty industry” is a huge issue, with dangerous skin lightening products being pushed out. Sales of these products are projected to hit almost $9 billion by 2024.

Everyone has different skin types and so certain product types will work for some and not others. Eluxe magazine recently put together a list of the top 10 natural body creams for black skin, which included our YARA Body Food as a “power player”. The article highlights the difference melanated skin faces. Black skin has a high sebum content, but it is also lower in ceramides (they keep skin healthy and hydrated). Shea Butter, an incredibly powerful ingredient, is the base of every single product we make. Why? It has some powerful properties that means it works for all skin types. It’s one of the few ingredients that is a humectant, emollient and occlusive, meaning it attracts moisture into the skin at the cellular level, locks it in and leaves skin with the ultimate hydration, essential no matter whether you have oily, combination or dry skin.

We believe in celebrating our imperfections, which can often be easier said than done. That’s why this year we are talking about, sharing, praising the things that are often viewed as ‘imperfections’. We want to change that perception and that mindset.

As a brand our root is based on embracing our imperfections. We have encouraged our tribers to be comfortable in their own skin, but we want to do more, which is why this year we are focusing on bringing it full circle. Our theme and focus are on embracing & enhancing imperfections (knowing that we are Imperfectly Perfect).

How are we doing this?

We will do this through the power of nature

We will do this through embracing our responsibility to our planet

We will do this through enhancing our source to jar journey - (sustainability initiatives)

We will do this through embracing and enhancing our skincare routine

We will do this through product diversification (exciting new product launches!)

We will do this by embracing our current tribers whilst welcoming the new!

That is our promise to you for 2022!
